Doctoral studies at ISH is an inspiring adventure: extremely interesting and perfectly presented lectures, continuous distribution of humanistic horizons, boosting development of scientific thinking with an emphasis on regular assistance with the selected doctoral topic and, what I really appreciate and enjoy, spirit of dialogism. All this with lecturers, who found a value to live in accordance with what they teach.
Vesna Periček Krapež
1st year of doctoral studies in 2016/2017“When I decided for doctoral study, the ISH – Institutum studiorum humanitatis, was actually a natural choice to me: it was not possible to study historical anthropology anywhere else in Slovenia at the time. Because part of my study was carried out abroad, in Venice, Vienna and German Münster, I wished that my home professors and mentors understand my study in the same modern way as I did, and at ISH this came true.”
dr. Alja Brglez
Doctor of Historical Anthropology (2001), Head of Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Slovenia and Research Fellow of AMEU-ISHDoctoral study at Alma Mater ISH offers a wide range of knowledge, because it is very interdisciplinary focussed. It is possible to participate and attend lectures by well-established and internationally recognised experts in various fields. The study is very well structured and focused on objectives. There is a lot of discussion in the very process of lectures, as well as great constructive criticism that can help and facilitate you for the preparatory work on your own doctoral dissertation. It also includes gaining of practical skills in order to deal with academia, writing scientific papers and participation and speaking at professional conferences. Mentors and professors are open to new ideas and learning processes. So I can confidently say that everyone can certainly find something for themselves and, despite the fact that the study is demanding, it also offers a lot.

Maja Hawlina
1 st year doctoral studies in 2016/2017At the Master’s study of Linguistics of Speech and Theory of Social Communication,I had the honor to have, unfortunately deceased, dr. Janez Justin as a mentor and an honor to pass two exams with, unfortunately deceased, dr. Dubravko Škiljan, who I both really respect. Study at ISH, in addition to extensive knowledge gained at lectures, represented a profound theoretical break and entering cognitivism for me. And, although the faculty was dominated by structuralism, it gave me a very fruitful mentoring also for my theoretical interest, which shows a lot of breadth and openness of this institution. I am pleased to recall my student years at ISH.
Mag. Sebastjan Jeretič
